Born 1981, Pittsburgh, USA. Received his masters in Slavic Languages and Literatures (A.M. 2104, speciality in Czech and Slovak cinema and literature) and bachelor’s in English Literature (A.B. 2003) from the University of Chicago before joining the Katedra filmových studií at Charles University in Prague for his doctoral studies, where he is finishing his thesis Picturing the Nation: The Development of Slovak Ethnic Identity through the Mass Produced Image. His research interests include national and ethnic identity, Slovak cinema, ethnography, photography, and cultural history. He is a contributor to East European Film Bulletin as well as a freelance translator, editor for various academic publications, and lecturer in film history at Charles University and FAMU.
